Last week, from the 29th of July until the 6th of August, the Pride Amsterdam 2017 took place. During this week Amsterdam is filled with the theme Love, especially the acceptance of it no matter what.
The pride was previously called the Gay Pride. I like the new name. It suggests that this party is for everyone in and outside the LGTB+ community and not exclusively for gay people.
I think it is important that the Pride exists. Unfortunately, being gay, queer, trans, etc is not expected everywhere. The Netherlands has a reputation of being a very tolerant country and the fact that we have such a wonderful event plays supports this reputation, but unfortunately, even the Netherlands is not as accepting as it sounds. Too many people get bullied, harassed and discriminated due to the gender they feel attracted to.
I hope that one day, everyone will be accepted the way they are and love safely ❤
What do you think of the message behind the Pride?
